Abstract

Considering the continued trend in medication non-adherence among adult diabetic patients, various studies have sought to unearth the determinants of medication non-adherence. These studies appear to use the same or similar data analytic approach to unearth the determinants of medication non-adherence, thereby guaranteeing that the same or similar conclusions, as it were, would be reached. However, there is a need to ascertain how robust research findings on medication non-adherence is, in the face of non-traditional data analytic approaches, such as structural equation modelling (SEM), when it comes to research on medication non-adherence. This article, thus, will seek to review, as much as possible, the different data analytic approaches that have been used in studies touching on medication non-adherence among type 2 diabetic patients, while proposing structural equation modelling as a non-traditional data analytic approach.
