Factors Influencing Adherence to Anti-Diabetes Medication Among Diabetes In Accra

Abstract

Diabetes has become one of the essential diseases for discussion in recent times across the globe. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing adherence to the anti-diabetic medication among diabetics attending the Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge). A cross-sectional study design was used. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 214 persons for the study. Data was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. The results revealed that behavioural and lifestyle factors such as, diet, drink, physical activities level and their adherence to management recommendations reported values that should be looked at; only 19.0% of the participants adhered to the anti-diabetics while, the majority 81% did not adhere to the anti-diabetic medication; religious affiliation an education of respondents on diabetes mellitus were the only two factors that were significantly associated with adherence to diabetic medication (P < 0.05).
