Effects of Music Preference on Social well-being of Female University Students in Sialkot

Music is a very important part of the social life of humans which affects a lot, in fact it can be said that every aspect of life is affected by in including social life, economy, health, living, social well-being. It refers to maintain the positive relations with other people in the society and behaving appropriately while maintaining social standards, this is important to survive in the society as it is said man is a social animal who cannot survive without society. Music has a serious impact on a person’s social life which also affects his/her social behavior. Due to its immense importance, it becomes interesting to know the link between social well-being and music. This study aims to examine the effects of music preference on social well-being of female university students in Sialkot. A quantitative method was used to study the females who have reached their adulthood, the sample was selected based on simple random sampling in which 350-500 participants were randomly selected from the area of Sialkot. The data was collected through survey questionnaires. Data was analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. First, descriptive analysis was performed to summarize the data set. Second, correlation was examined to determine the relationship between music preference and social well-being. Finally, regression analysis was performed to identify what type of effect music preference has on social well-being. It was found that music preference affects social well-being and can result in both positive as well as negative factors in a person’s social life. It was recommended that music should be taught to young people in a positive way so that their social well-being can be enhanced, while the genres of music which have negative effects on social well-being should be avoided.
