The mediating role of Parental behavior between Childhood traumatic events and Body Focused Repetitive Behavior Disorders among adolescents

Abstract

The current study was sought to examine the mediating role of parental behavior between childhood trauma and body focused repetitive behavior disorder; trichotillomania, excoriation disorder and nail biting. The sample of the study was comprised of 130 educated adolescents including both males and females. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (Pennebaker &Susman,2013), The Trichotillomania Scale for Children/adolescents (Tolin et al, 2008), skin picking scale (Snorrosam et al., 2012), Nail-Biting Scale (Claes & Vandereycken, 2007) and Parental Bonding Instrument are the different scales that were used in the present study. The results of the study revealed that the Parental behavior has mediating role between Childhood traumatic events and BFRBD. These findings would be helpful for the psychologists, councilors and other health services providers to enhance their knowledge regarding the critical age period of adolescents with respect to parental behavior and childhood traumas.
