the experiences of transgender individuals in Bengaluru, employing a descriptive research methodology. A sample of 60 male-to-female transgender subjects was selected through consecutive sampling, with the assistance of Sangam a, an NGO dedicated to this community. The findings revealed significant challenges faced by this population. A noteworthy observation was that half of the transgender individuals had migrated from other states and lacked familial and social support. The primary means of livelihood for many were sex work and begging, with the majority spending their earnings on substances and daily necessities, without a practice of saving for the future. It was evident that a considerable number of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with their current lives. Educational attainment and staying within their family of origin emerged as factors positively influencing self-esteem, with those who had completed high school and above scoring higher. Overall, the study highlighted the marginalized and misunderstood status of transgender persons in society. In light of these findings, urgent efforts are required to raise awareness and promote the mainstream integration of this population. Social workers are identified as pivotal agents for instigating positive change in the lives of transgender individuals. Through their advocacy and support, social workers can contribute significantly to breaking down societal stigmas and fostering understanding, thereby facilitating the inclusion and well-being of transgender persons.
