Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the contemporary world in novel ways. World militaries including the Indian army are incorporating AI to prepare for potential conflicts, achieve national interests, enhance deterrence, deter external threats, and preserve their sovereignty. AI’s military application is changing the future dynamics of the South Asian crisis, conflict, conflict escalation, and warfare. Indian sensor-to-shooter loop reduces the required time for identifying the adversary’s incoming object and weapon engagement for Indian defence forces. AI will assist the decision-makers in weapon and target selection selecting. The availability of huge real-time data will increase the Indian military’s situational awareness vis-à-vis adversaries. Consequentially, adversary forces deployed near the border can be eradicated in surprise attacks or overwhelmed with swarm kamikaze drones resulting in a use it or lose it dilemma. Kamikaze autonomous fighter planes will sacrifice themselves to protect Indian fighter pilots. The paper discusses how fiction is becoming reality.
