Overcoming public transportation issues in Pakistan: Passengers responses to Lahore Rapid Mass Transit Project

Lahore Rapid Mass Transit Project was implemented to overcome the issues of public transportation with a major emphasis on road congestion and traffic flows. Consistent rise in demand for public transport depicts the need for better bus service that could cater the needs of citizens. Central concerns in the provision of effective bus service remain the adoption of the facility that could resolve the transportation issues. Responses of rapid mass transit users reveal their willingness to pay for the bus facility and their acceptance. The response of public transport users towards a new and advanced system of public transport facility LRMT is assessed. This study uncovers various demographic, socio-economic and social factors determining passengers willingness to pay (WTP) for using Lahore Rapid Mass Transit (LRMT) facility. Analysis of Variance and Logistic Regression analysis as econometric technique are used to analyze factors determining willingness to pay.
