Abstract

The article entitles “Struggle and Survival: A Study in Kristin Harmel's The Forest of Vanishing Stars” centres around the Jews during the second world war. It focuses on how the Jews run into the forest and struggles for their survival. Harmel brilliantly puts the foundation of the plot in the forest and builds the characters in it. Each character reflects different shades of grieves. The major focus of the article is how the war changes the thoughts and lifestyle of humans. The world differs in race, religion, language, food, lifestyle, and geographical sectors. According to these divisions, people stay in different groups and create riots by using these above elements. This article shows how one group of people (Nazis) suppress and want to destroy an entire community (Jews) during the second world war. Though the war grabs the souls it makes the different classes of the family into one at the war time. The article explores how the Jews find a way to rise and struggle with the Nazis to survive in the forest.
