The Role of Social Workers in Handling Street Children in the City of Bandung

Street children are a portrait of life that comes from the streets who are very vulnerable to experiencing various problems that exist in society. Of the various possibilities that can befall street children such as violence, victims of exploitation, free sex and so on. Street children are a complex issue in the urban context, including in the city of Bandung. This study aims to explore the role of social workers in handling street children in the city of Bandung and to evaluate the impact of their efforts in overcoming this problem. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. The results of the study show that the efforts made by the government to deal with street children in the city of Bandung are the establishment of the Child Social Welfare Program (PKSA) whose implementation is carried out by the Social Work Service Unit (Sakti Peksos). In its role in overcoming the problem of street children in the city of Bandung, it is carried out through the role of intermediary, enabler, mediator and educator. With these roles, social workers can contribute to improving the quality of life of street children and helping them to have better opportunities in the future.
