Community Political Participation in Strengthening Local Democracy in Indonesia

Abstract

The democratic euphoria which then encouraged democratization at all levels including local democracy. Local democracy is an important component in strengthening the democratic system as a whole, by involving the active participation of the community in decision making and policy implementation at the local level. This study aims to analyze people's political participation in the context of strengthening local democracy in Indonesia. The research method used is the Qualitative Method with a literature study approach by collecting data from various sources related to community political participation and local democracy in Indonesia. The research results show that people's political participation has an important role in strengthening local democracy in Indonesia. Forms of political participation such as elections, public discussions and debates, political organizations and activism, and public consultations can provide a platform for the public to be actively involved in the political process. Even though there are factors that affect political participation such as employment, education, and the track record of local leaders, efforts to increase people's political participation need to be carried out through incentives, educational campaigns, and building trust.
