Abstract

As populations continue to extend life expectancy, a central concern is whether the added time comprises years of healthy life and promotes a high health-related quality of life into old age. Physical function is the capacity of an individual to perform the physical activities of daily living. When people retire from work, they tend to become stagnant and never do any physical activity anymore which actually make them even more susceptible to sickness.

This is the very reason why every individual should be encouraged to engage or participate in sports and physical activities. In order to avoid sedentary life, one should engage to physical activities. In fact, the importance of Physical Activity for health is well documented. There is a strong evidence that Physical Activity in later life reduces the risk of disease, helps to manage existing conditions, and develops, maintains, physical and mental function. Staying physically active is particularly important for older adults currently.

The master’s athletes follow proper preparations and certain diets like professional and elite athletes do. The study aims to look at the scientific preparation of masters’ athletes and how it affects their personal and social lives. A survey questionnaire and informal interviews of 51 masters’ athletes were used in data gathering during the Asian Masters Athletics Competitions 2019 at Kuching Sarawak Malaysia; Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0 was used as a tool for the analysis. Result revealed that masters Competitions helps enhance the level of self-esteem, confidence, and self-efficacy, handle defeat, and remain humble during victory. It also has significant benefits in their social lives by providing wider and strong connections with other Asian. Countries, adapting good practices, building strong bonds of friendship and camaraderie. Therefore, every individual should be encouraged to engage or participate in sports and physical activities to avoid sedentary life that will deteriorate their physical body as they grow older.
