Abstract

Purpose:  Presently, senior citizens are adopting the approach of positive aging in their life; as a result, the importance of the role concept increases at every level. This study helps to understand how the role is helping in making and considering them valuable.

Design and Methods: To conduct this qualitative study approach was chosen with the help of narrative analysis based on open-ended interviews. Twenty-three senior citizens aged sixty and above were chosen for this study through purposive sampling.

Result: The study suggests that role is an integral part of the life of senior citizens because they acquire versatile knowledge, skill and experience, leading to become resources. Due to this, they become valuable to the family, group, community and society.

Implication:  Role is an essential aspect of our life. Playing a role makes a person much more mature. The role makes the senior citizen a valuable human resource in the long run. The role provides an identity to the senior citizen not only at the individual level but also at the family and societal levels
