Abstract

The poetry of Allama Muhammad Iqbal indicates many areas where he has fabulous expertise and proficiency. Among these areas, Sharī‘ah is the one where he is very much conversant with its various facets i.e. Ibadāt(worships), Muamalāt (deeds) and Akhlaqyeāt (morality).  He expounds, profoundly, all these parts and their rules and regulations in his poems. The present work, therefore, endeavors to point out all those chunks of his poetry that show his thorough knowledge over the understanding of Sharī‘ah with all its three dimensions. Furthermore, the study also make public his zeal and enthusiasm, followed by his practical steps, for the preaching of Islam. His rhymes portrays that Sharī‘ah is the only way that can be used for the uplift of all human beings in general and Muslims in particular. In addition, his poetry pays attention more on the ethical aspects of Sharī‘ah as compared to other aspects. In his view, the economic, social and political life of Muslims can be established, certainly, whenever they truly act according to the provisions of Sharī‘ah.  In his scholastic approach, the role of religious scholar, in this regard, is very much vital. His poetry, in short, is a tremendous guideline for Muslims regarding Sharī‘ah’s teachings.
