And can it Boil Water?
Abstract
: Under normal circumstances, ice can only cool water, not boil it. But under certain conditions, ice can make water boil. See the experiment below. Fill half a bottle of water in a flat-bottomed flask and heat it on a sprinkling lamp (Figure a). After the water has boiled for a while, remove the flask from the fire and quickly plug the mouth of the bottle with a base. At this point, although the temperature of the water in the flask is high, the boiling has stopped (Fig. b). Turn the flask upside down again, put some crushed ice cubes at the bottom of the flask, and we see that the water in the flask quickly boils again (Figure C). Why is it reboiled? Physics tells me to ask that the boiling point of a liquid is related to the air pressure on the surface of the liquid. The higher the pressure, the higher the boiling point; the lower the pressure, the lower the boiling point. For example, the atmospheric pressure on the ground is 1 atmosphere. Then the water boils at IOOC; at the top of Mount Everest with a wave throw of 8848 meters, about 72C cubits, the water boils. Knowing this truth, it is not difficult to explain the above phenomenon.
