The Appreciation of Yen and Its Influence on the Economic Development of Asia-Pacific
Abstract
Since September 1985, under the joint intervention of the governments of major capitalist countries, the yen has continued to appreciate. It was not until October 1986 that the dollar rebounded slightly. The exchange rate of the yen against the dollar once fell below the 160:1 mark. The appreciation of the yen has an impact on both the Japanese and American economies. Japan is currently stepping up the pace of domestic economic adjustment, and other developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region are also adjusting accordingly.
