Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) encompass a broad spectrum of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, including muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. Sub-Saharan Africa faces notable challenges in managing MSDs, marked by restricted healthcare accessibility, a high incidence of communicable diseases, inadequate awareness and education, subpar healthcare infrastructure, socioeconomic disparities, and limited research and data. Nevertheless, opportunities for enhancing MSD management in the region exist. These encompass raising public awareness, augmenting healthcare infrastructure, conducting research, fostering partnerships, and strengthening rehabilitation services. This article delves into these challenges and prospects, underscoring the imperative need for holistic efforts to alleviate the impact of musculoskeletal disorders in the region.
